It may become overflooded with nonsense like deviant art. But you know more about this stuff than I do, so you should decide.

posted a comment on March 20th, 2012:The lameness of deviantart partially stems from its lack of a rating system. On PA-G, you can downvote art to oblivion or upvote/visually respond it to prominence. Hopefully this keeps the BS at bay.

It seems more sleek and aerodynamic with PA-G.CO

posted a comment on March 21st, 2012:That's a hard question. It is your project. One thing that is so cool about the website is the vibe and intimacy of the community. It's quirky and fun, and there's room for a lot of meaningful exchanges. Broadening the size of the community will change the vibe. Change is an inevitable thing though... The vibe has changed in the year or so I've been here- more artists, some artists dropping off, new influences, different dynamics. However, if the volume of art and artists increases massively, things will change. If the site really blew up, things would probably feel very different. Yes, people can downvote artwork, but how often do people actually do that unless an artwork is inflammatory or offensive? If there were thousands of active members, it would feel like there was a flood of information and content. Some of the meaning in our interactions here would be destroyed, or lost to the wind.

posted a comment on March 21st, 2012:I know this is your project and you will have your own aims for the future of the website- if it were my project, I would be looking for ways to grow it though and make it greater than it was the day before. So I understand the desire for expansion. Here's my take- think about what makes PA-G awesome. Think about what motivates people to be part of this uniquely quirky community. Think about what makes people want to take time making and sharing their quirky, funny, or crude artwork, and exchanging with others. All the things that makes PA-G, PA-G. If an expansion were to happen, the goal would be to creatively devise some ways to make structural changes to the website as well, so that the inherent meaning for users in being here can be preserved.
GiliusThunderhead
posted a comment on March 21st, 2012:Some of that meaning will be lost if everyone was drowning in a sea of content. So maybe if there is an increased flow of content, some structural changes to help bring organization to all of the new information coming in would be beneficial. Maybe the possibility for users to create artist groups... Or giving users the ability to "friend" others, or follow or subscribe to other artists. If there will be more content, you could give the users a way to manage the content coming to them on PA-G, and also ways for the community to collectively manage and separate content. I'd think about what you want the website to be for people- creative solutions are definitely possible so that the website can grow, and still support that expansion in a way that makes sense for everyone.

posted a comment on March 21st, 2012:Thanks Gilius. That is some good input. Basically what you're saying is, if I turn on that water hose full-blast, I better have a nice fancy bucket to handle it all. (strange analogy?)
I'm flying back to Korea in a few days and will try to force myself to re-learn the Korean I forgot. Who knows, I might actually be fluent someday. That means PA-G improvements might be on hold for a bit.
When I start coding again, one of the first things I want to do is add a "suggested improvements" module. Basically it will be a table where people can add suggested improvements and then other people can vote them up or down. So if many people upvote "add a friends section" or "turn PA-G pink" I will feel compelled to do so.
I also want to add a similar kind of module for "suggested art competition topics." I think art competitions need to be institutionalized and solidified into beautiful, perpetual existence. This was one of the cool things from back in the day.

I wish there were more ways to interact with the artists than just on the art, and the visual responses. I suppose I have a hard time being social with people, and making friends, like DA, that site made me feel worthless, actually. I just wish there were easier ways to make friends on here. I'm loving everything though.

posted a comment on March 30th, 2012:I've got to get more of a FEEL, of other people before I think I can do more visual responses. I have like, low self esteem on that stuff. I'm not that good at drawing, so visual responses take thought and drawing abilities. I'm just more of an abstract person... But I love everyone's work here, it's opening my eyes on what I can do to improve the whole "collaboration" thing. I love it. Your stuff is really amazing, too Gilius, everything I've seen from you, I've given the Good job thingy.
